Mumtaz's film career began in 1972 in the film Ehsaas (Shabnam,Nadeem)

One of her most famous item number performances is in the film Banarsi Thug, with ‘Akh lari badu badi, mauqa milay kadi, kadi’.

She has made many memorable film hits with superb songs .Mumtaz received the Nigar Award for best actress for five films. One of the top  glamorous stars of the 70s and 80s. Her films and the songs she picturised remain ever popular.
